The meeting between Sergey Dankvert, Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, Dr Jean-Philippe Dop, the OIE Deputy Director General and Romano Marabelli, Advisor to the OIE Director General, was held on February 11. Representatives of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Russian Ministry of Economic Development also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting the parties summed up the results of 2019 and discussed the future cooperation in 2020. Besides, the parties discussed implementation of the OIE standards and recommendations in the Russian Veterinary Law and in particular, implementation of the animal identification and traceability systems in the Russian Federation.
During the meeting the Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor remarked that the Service pays great attention to proper traceability during animal product manufacturing. For this purpose VETIS veterinary information system was developed and implemented. This platform includes several integrated subsystems including FGIS MERCURY which can trace the production chain at all stages.
The OIE representatives remarked that it is necessary to create a common e-base for livestock identification in Russia.
The Advisor to the OIE Director General, in his turn, made a presentation and showed a film about the Italian system similar to VETIS, an experience of the Italian Veterinary Service in implementing the animal identification and traceability system in livestock product manufacturing.
The parties also discussed the assessment of the Russian Veterinary Service performance by the OIE certified experts.
The OIE representatives plan to meet the representatives of the Eurasian Economic Commission, visit PRODEXPO-2020, State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russian Federation and the Moscow State Academy of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology named after K.I. Skryabin.
