One ASF infected wild boar and 58 domestic pigs were
detected in Valka Municipality of Ērģeme parish. The distance between a wild
boar carcass and a farm was less than one kilometer. The outbreak occurred
outside the previously established risk zone. Primary animal health measures
were taken. Besides, two more ASF outbreaks were registered in two pig farms
with two and 48 pigs respectively as well three outbreaks were registered in
wild boars in the previously established risk zone.
Therefore since June 26 current year when ASF was registered
in Latvia for the first time 9 disease outbreaks have been registered in
domestic pigs and 25 outbreaks in wild boars.
Rapid disease spread over the country confirms negative
prognoses of the Rosselkhoznadzor’s experts and demonstrates high risks related
to absence of product movement control from risk zones and viciousness of the
principle that denies wild boar population control.
