ASF Spread in the European Union

Despite the fact that the EC takes measures to contain ASFV spread, the disease affects more and more animals. As of today, 197 outbreaks have been registered in populations of wild boars and domestic pigs in the EU. The Rosselkhoznadzor experts were warning the EC about the imminent risk for several years. Unfortunately, the epidemic dynamics in the EU met the most pessimistic predictions. The total number of outbreaks in EU for the 11 months of the current year has reached the number comparable to the one registered in the Russian Federation 2 years after the introduction of ASFV into the country. Evidently, this happened due to the fact that when first ASF outbreaks were registered in the populations of wild boars, the EC  confined itself to taking minimal measures which helped the agent to establish and then to spread over new territories and countries.
