Negotiations between Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, CVO of the RF Yevgeny Nepoklonov and Representatives of the Iranian Veterinary Services

The negotiations were initiated by the Russian side and were held on the 28th of May on the sidelines of the 83d OIE General Session. The negotiations were devoted to topical issues of cooperation between the countries in the field of biological safety during reciprocal supplies of animal products and to control of spread of transboundary animal diseases.

During the meeting the sides discussed FMD control in Iran and in the RF and in the bordering states. Yevgeny Nepoklonov informed about Russia’s experience in eradicating the disease of concern in Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia with the help of institutions subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor.  The sides achieved mutual understanding in the issues related to importance of joint and coordinated actions and in the necessity to develop a Regional FDM control program for Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia together with the countries concerned and to submit the programme to the OIE, the FAO and EuFMD. 

The sides also discussed the issues of reciprocal supplies of animal products. The Rosselkhoznadzor informed on its intention to pass a protocol on conditions for exports of animal products from Iran to Russia as soon as possible. In addition to it, the Rosselkhoznadzor will send an invitations to the Iranian side to inspect a number of Russian plants (itinerary attached) in order to find a solution to the issue of Russian exports of animal products to Iran. The Iranian side assured that the decision on sending a team of inspectors to Russia would be made in the nearest future.

The dialogue outcomes and the necessity to establish cooperation between the veterinary competent authorities of Iran and Russia will help to further develop relations between the countries in a constructive way.
