Rosselkhoznadzor Participated in Conference of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Prevention and Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases

On May 12, 2018 the Conference of the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on cooperation in the field of joint prevention, control and monitoring of transboundary epizootic diseases was held in Xi’an (China). It was organized by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province.

The conference was attended by leading specialists and experts, representatives of scientific and public organizations of member states, observer-states and partners in the SCO dialogue, and international organizations. The Russian Federation was represented by Advisor to the Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Nikita Lebedev and the head of the risk analysis section of the FGBI «ARRIAH» Andrey Oganesyan.

Also within the framework of the event the draft Memorandum of the SCO member states «On technical cooperation in the field of joint prevention and control of transboundary epizootic diseases» was agreed. The Memorandum provides for the establishment of cooperation among member states on control, prevention and monitoring of transboundary epizootic diseases, the formation of joint preventive effort in control of pandemic threats, and provision of safe trade in food, animals and products thereof. It is expected that the document will be signed at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on June 9-10, 2018 in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China.

Following the results of the Conference, the participants adopted a joint statement in which they expressed their continuity with the provisions of the World Organization for Animal Health on joint prevention and control of transboundary epizootic diseases, noted the importance of creating «a biosafety corridor» in the SCO space. The participants also called for strengthening the dialogue and multilateral mutual trust, expanding scientific and technical cooperation and sharing the results of science and technology, and creating an information platform on the transboundary epidemic situation and animal diseases.
