Epizootic situation

Information on mass mortality among saigas in the territory of National nature reserve “Altyn Dala”, the Almangeldinsky Raion, Kostanaisk Oblast, and Irgiz- Turgaisky reserve, Aktubinsk and Akmolinsk Oblasts, Kazakhstan, appeared in mass media on May 12, 2015. Data on the number of dead saigas is constantly changing. As of May 22, 2015 more than 85 thousand of saigas were found dead.

The outbreak emerged in the Kiev Oblast in Grabov stow located in the vicinity of Landysh allotment association and lands of governmental organization “Rezidentsiya Zalesye” in the Brovarsky Raion. Three wild boar carcasses were found. The animals died of African swine fever. The cause of death was confirmed by pathological sample tests performed in the Kiev National Research Institution for Laboratory Diagnosis and Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise. Meeting of the National Extraordinary Anti-Epidemic Commission under the Brovarsky regional administration was held and Plan for ASF eradication was approved. Risk zone and surveillance zone were established.

Methicillin-resistable S. aureus (LA-MRSA) hazardous to humans was identified in pig herds in Central Norway. This is indicative of the fact that measures taken for LA-MRSA control following first cases of its detection in Norway in 2008 were not efficient. The Rosselkhoznadzor monitors the situation.

Due to outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N8 in Anhalt-Bitterfeld district, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, temporary restrictions on export of live poultry and hatching eggs to the Russian Federation from the specified district are imposed from January 27, 2015.

The ASF situation remains highly acute in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland. Over the recent 12 months 252 ASF outbreaks have been reported in the European Union. By the end of the year, border of the quarantine zone moved 250 km inside the European Union.

According to the available data, the disease has spread over the territory of Ukraine since spring 2014. The disease is highly contagious and capable to cause 100 % mortality of affected pigs. Many Ukrainian pig farms have enhanced farm biosecurity.

Due to bluetongue emergence in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia, from December 30, 2014 the Rosselkhoznadzor imposed temporary restrictions on importation of bluetongue susceptible breeding cattle and small ruminants, wild animals, zoo and circus animals, camels and other camelids (lamas, alpacas, vicunas), bovine, ram and male goat semen, embryos of cattle and small ruminants into the Russian Federation from the above mentioned county of Croatia.
