Epizootic situation

United Kingdom, France and Austria reported outbreaks implicating Salmonella Enteritidis. In the UK the outbreaks occurred in London as well as in Hampshire, Cheshire, Merseyside, and West Midlands, in France – in six regions of the country, the exact number of outbreaks in Austria is being specified. Despite of some genetic heterogenicity of the virus isolates the tests demonstrated their close structural relationship. The Rosselkhoznadzor is monitoring the situation.

Human cases were registered in 21 states with the majority of cases (57%) in Texas. The most probable source of  infection was poor quality products. Last year cyclosporosis outbreak affected 25 states and the source of infection was not detected. The Rosselkhoznadzor is monitoring the situation.

To date, 83 outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) including 33 outbreaks in domestic pigs and 50 outbreaks in wild boar has been officially reported in the territory of the European Union. Seven outbreaks occurred in Lithuania, 62 outbreaks in Latvia and 14 in Poland. Therewith, the experts are of opinion that the most part of outbreaks in Poland remains unreported that significantly increases the risk of the disease introduction to the neighboring countries.

So far human disease outbreaks implicating poultry products and caused by Salmonella in poultry (mostly Salmonella Infantis, Salmonella Newport and Salmonella Hadar) have spread over Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Main, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin,  Wyoming, and Puerto Rico. Last week 64 men were hospitalized. Rosselkhoznadzor is monitoring the situation.

Sergey Dankvert informed Leonid Zayats about the restrictions the Rosselkhoznadzor imposed on milk products imported into Russia from Ukraine due to the increase of the number of consignments which do not meet the CU and RF safety requirements. Other issues of mutual interest such as the continuous spread of ASF in Eastern Europe were also touched upon.

One ASF infected wild boar and 58 domestic pigs were detected in Valka Municipality of Ērģeme parish. The distance between a wild boar carcass and a farm was less than one kilometer. The outbreak occurred outside the previously established risk zone. Primary animal health measures were taken. Besides, two more ASF outbreaks were registered in two pig farms with two and 48 pigs respectively as well three outbreaks were registered in wild boars in the previously established risk zone.

The letter sent by Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, Russian CVO Yevgeny Nepoklonov to FSIS Head Jane Doherty among other things says that the Rosselkhoznadzor is concerned by the increase in number of cases when dangerous poultry products are imported from the USA to Russia. This year mesopilic aerobic and facultatively anaerobic microorganisms, Salmonella, Listeria, residues of harmful and banned substances like heavy metal salts and coccidiostats have been found in such products.

New ASF outbreaks in domestic pigs kept in backyards were registered in Piedruja and Kalnieši parishes of Kraslava municipality and in Bērziņi parish of Dagda minucupality. The animals were destroyed; primary disinfection of farms was carried out. The epizootological investigation demonstrated that there was no link between new cases and previously reported outbreaks. Since June 26, when ASF was originally detected in the territory of Latvia, five outbreaks have been confirmed in domestic pigs and 22 in wild boar.
